Silhouettes – A Timeless Classic and An Elegant Tradition

silhouette D 1

There is nothing sweeter than a beautiful little silhouette of your precious babe adorning a wall or bookshelf.  I still remember being in my grandmother’s house as a child and staring at the silhouettes on the wall.   Now grown with children of my own, I’m not sure if it’s just the nostalgic memory, or the idea of preserving my darling little girls’ profiles at this young age that I love so much…maybe both. 🙂  Either way, when I came across Lena Bengtson doing scissor cut free-hand silhouettes at a local baby boutique, I was thrilled.

Watching Ms. Lena cut out these beautiful little silhouettes by hand was incredible.  It’s amazing how quickly and precisely she creates these works of art.  And needless to say, my little ones don’t hold very still so I was even more impressed with the finished product!

Of course, Ms. Lena is rather busy around the holiday season as a silhouette is such a wonderful gift for someone special, especially grandparents!  They are such a precious keepsake. We gave both grandmothers duplicates of the girls’ silhouettes for Christmas this year and they loved them. It’s a great idea though not just for Christmas but also birthdays and Mother’s Day.

The silhouettes will be a new tradition in our house, just as in my grandparent’s house. Maybe not every year, but at least these first few years when my girls are growing and changing so rapidly. It will forever preserve those sweet little childhood profiles, full of innocence and chubby cheeks 🙂
