Top Ten Stylish Mama Essentials

As a mama of two adorable little girls under the age of 3, I often find it challenging to find time to take care of myself.  I still remember when shortly after my first daughter was born, it became a huge accomplishment for me to be able to take a shower.  I’ve learned to try to simplify my life as much as possible, and by having a few basic go-to items that are stylish staples, I can feel “put together” with minimal effort.   Whether it be a few accessories or a classic pair of jeans, it doesn’t have to take much to put an outfit together.  Here is my list of top ten stylish mama essentials:

bkr water bottle

bkr water bottle

First, as a nursing mom, you can never drink enough water!  My sister-in-law gave me one of these water bottles as a Christmas gift several years ago, and I’ve since purchased more because they are amazing!  My hands are constantly full…carrying a baby, carrying an almost three-year-old, carrying the many armfuls of things the almost three-year-old decides she needs to carry around the house and then says “hold this please” when she realizes she can’t carry everything.  My point is, as I chase my little girls around the house, it’s nice to be able to easily hook this beautiful bottle around my finger and not worry about spilling water all over the house.  Not to mention, I’m a big fan of using sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.  This glass bottle is fantastic, especially with the silicone sleeve to keep it from breaking.  When we are out shopping or at the park, I love to bring my bkr bottle along.  It’s functional and pretty.  I stay hydrated and it’s a gorgeous little accessory.  This item definitely tops my ten stylish mama essentials list!

apple watch

apple watch

I love the clean and simple look of this watch.  But more importantly, I love the functionality of this watch.  I can answer my phone on my watch without having my phone.  Bath time…no worries, I can get the watch wet without a problem.  This watch is wonderful when you forget your phone, or leave it in another part of the house.  I can’t tell you how many times my husband would call me from the grocery store to ask if there was anything else I thought of we needed (which usually there was) and I would be upstairs while my phone was downstairs.  I love being able to leave my phone anywhere in the house and still know if someone is calling or texting just by looking at my wrist.  Because let me tell you, it never fails when I am expecting that important phone call from the pediatrician, somehow I always end up without my phone on me and miss the call.  Or worse, when I’m not expecting a phone call at all, and my daughter’s preschool calls with a concern about her food allergy.  In this day and age of technology, I don’t like to feel too overly connected, but I do think there are times when it’s important.

freshly picked diaper bag

freshly picked diaper bag

This bag is beautiful as well as functional.  It’s clean and simple.  The black leather is a classic staple piece that will go with every outfit.  Not to mention, super functional!  Wonderful pockets on both sides for a drink or a bottle.  And I love how the top of the bag fully opens up so you can get to everything inside.  This bag is interchangeable between messenger/shoulder style bag or a backpack style diaper bag.  I had a messenger diaper bag for my first child.  However, I quickly learned that I preferred a backpack style bag once she started walking.  The messenger bag was always swinging forward as I was running after her or bending down to pick her up – poor child got knocked over by the diaper bag numerous times.

The Felize driving moccasin is a pebbled leather shoe that looks gorgeous!  Handcrafted in Italy, these shoes are the epitome of quality.  It is a timeless shoe that is not only comfortable and well-made, but also a nice upgrade from my usual tennis shoes or Tom’s.  Looks great with so many everyday outfits without sacrificing the necessary function of being able to keep up with the kiddos.

loulou lollipop teething necklace

loulou lollipop teething necklace

A simple, eco-chic accessory that is ohhh so helpful with a teething child!  My daughter was routinely trying to teethe on my rock crystal amulet necklace.  Therefore, I decided it was time to find a different go-to necklace that was actually made for her to chew on, and boy does she chew on it!  She loves the string part of the necklace just as much as the wood and silicone beads.  🙂

pearl earrings

Needless to say from this blog’s name, pearl earrings have been a staple in my wardrobe for a long time.  And after having kids especially, I always wear stud earrings.  I don’t know if other people’s children are anything like mine, but wearing dangly earrings is like waving a red flag in front of a bull.  Pearl earrings are a timeless classic that never goes out of style, they are elegant, and match everything in my opinion.

jeans

A good, classic pair of jeans needs little explanation!

Boden breton shirt

A classic striped breton shirt is another wardrobe staple for me.  Of course, I love the traditional navy or black stripes.  But it’s nice to mix up the outfit a bit with various colors or, like this one, a fun little statement of lemons.  (Lemons!…I couldn’t help myself.)

Alice + Whittles classic black riding boot

Functional and stylish!  I love these rubber rain boots because they can be worn rain or shine.  Let’s be honest, when you have a preschool aged child there will be times when you are jumping in muddy puddles or playing outside at the grandparents’ farm….and these boots are waterproof and can be hosed down after the fun.    But with the clean lines and timeless look, they can also be worn as a comfortable pair of black riding boots matched with your favorite skinny jeans.

clementine kids quilt

I know this is not exactly something you would wear, but let’s call it an accessory.  It’s just so gorgeous.  Are you ready for a picnic in the park?  With this beautiful quilt you absolutely will be!  And no worries about taking it outside, because it just gets softer with every wash anyway.  A piece like this just adds a little bit of stylish fun to any playdate.

Well, that finishes my top ten stylish mama essentials.  These staple items have made getting dressed just a little easier for me.  They are not only pretty and stylish, but also functional in everyday life – which is a necessity!
