When planning both my girls’ nurseries, I was looking for that key decor item to give the room a sense of texture and luxury. For my youngest daughter, that item ended up being her sweet and whimsical canopy hanging over her crib. Crib canopies are a simple and easy addition that makes a huge impact on a room.
I love how the addition of her canopy made the nursery seem so serene and elegant. The sheer tulle and hint of sparkle added depth and texture. For now, it’s hanging over her crib, drawing the eye toward our precious little girl. However, I’m sure as she gets more mobile in her crib, we will have to make some adjustments to ensure it’s out of her reach. In order to hang the canopy from the ceiling, my husband simply pre-drilled a hole where I wanted the canopy, and screwed in a hook…Ta-Da. We chose to use a white hook to blend in with the ceiling color.
I went with a rose colored canopy to accent the neutral paint color and swan decor. But there are so many canopy options to suit any nursery theme and decor. Whether you are decorating a nursery for a little princess, or for an explorer on a wildlife adventure, a canopy will fit effortlessly into any decor. Just imagine an ivory colored netting canopy hanging delicately in a nursery. It’s like a mosquito net for your little one on an African safari or camping expedition. Adding warmth and texture to a nursery can be done so easily with a canopy, regardless of the baby’s gender.
For me, it was also important to invest in a statement piece for the nursery that has the ability to transition to a big girl room as well. As my girls get older, I can just envision them sitting at a little table under the canopy having a tea party. Or maybe they are huddled together with a book under the canopy and strands of twinkly lights. There are endless possibilities to what their imaginations may create with that canopy in the future. My hope is that the canopy will evolve into a type of Waldorf toy, allowing my girls to use their creativity and imagination for years to come.
